Indoor Air Quality

The key to healthy indoor air is controlling ventilation and humidity and then maintaining high quality air with systems of filtration and purification. Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) and Building Related Illnesses (BRI) caused by poor air quality, can be a burden to a lot of organizations, and smart measures for improved indoor air quality help eliminate these issues. It’s in the best interest of building owners and occupants to have a solid foundation on indoor air quality, which includes:

Ventilation & Ductwork
Ventilation is essential for the health and comfort of building occupants. It is specifically needed to dilute and remove pollutants emitted from internal and external sources. Good design combined with optimum air-tightness is needed to ensure healthy air quality, occupant comfort, and energy efficiency. Sufficient air supply and movement can be tested and analyzed to determine how your system is operating. Maintaining your ductwork (also called your distribution system) is the key to bettering both your indoor environment and system stability. Ductwork can be evaluated, cleaned, and sealed to prevent airflow and quality issues. Be sure to have your ductwork analyzed by a professional trained and certified by the National Air Duct Cleaning Association.

Air Filtration
By properly filtering your facility’s air of harmful particles, you can improve your indoor environment and breathe cleaner air. Proper filtration removes dirt, dust, and debris from the air you breathe. It also reduces pollen and other allergens, which can cause asthmatic attacks and allergic reactions. To see if your ventilation is working correctly, have Calvert-Jones test for excess levels of carbon dioxide, which is an indication of contaminant due to ventilation issues.

Air Purification
Air filtration removes particulate, whereas air purification removes the things a filter does not, such as odors and gases. The chemicals in paints, carpets, and other building materials (called VOCs, for volatile organic compounds) are harmful to building occupants and need to be removed through air purification. There is also an increasing concern with biological infectious agents, and air purification on a continuous basis is one way to prevent potential problems. Contact Calvert-Jones for more information on air purification services.
