DROP OFF USED COMPUTERS, CELL PHONES, MONITORS* AND
FLUORESCENT BULBS FOR FREE Environmentally Safe Recycling

CALVERT-JONES' RECYCLING DAY
Thursday, September 17th
9 - 4 PM
5703 Edsall Road, Alexandria, VA 22304

ALEXANDRIA, VA - CALVERT JONES CO. one of the Mid-Atlantic's leading providers of green building services and technology, invites customers to help keep the planet clean by participating at the Company's ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE RECYCLING DROP OFF DAY. The event, started in 2007 to help educate customers on the proper way to recycle used fluorescent bulbs, has been expanded to include unwanted computers and other related equipment. In addition, Calvert Jones will also accept used cell phones to be turned into prepaid calling cards for troops serving overseas.

Costs for the collection and recycling of computers are being absorbed by the Ellicott City, Md. firm e-Structors, which offers secure and environmentally sound recycling of computer and electronic hardware. In addition to environsafeguards any sensitive data on computers. (*There is a small fee of $.20 per pound for monitors)

Estimates state that one four-foot fluorescent tube contains enough mercury to contaminate 6,000 gallons of drinking water.  Regulations issued by both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), describe used fluorescent lighting tubes as hazardous waste due to the amount of mercury and other toxic substances contained in them, and direct  that they must be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner, rather than thrown into normal trash.  However, the regulation is regularly overlooked by many businesses.

We are looking forward to seeing you Thursday!

Be Green,
Calvert-Jones Co.
